Lion Among Roses: A Memoir of Finland
David Bradley
Holt Rinehart & Winston
First Edition Published 1965
The author first visited Finland as a newspaperman covering the Winter War with Russia in 1939. Still haunted by a desire to find out about this fiercely independent and create nation, he returned in 1960 with his wife and five children to teach English literature to the Finns. During his tenure in Finland, he explored how they had revolted against both East and West, maintaining their republic in spite of military defeats, depression, civil war, the Communist movement and a Fascist uprising. This fascinating account, well researched interjects with humour whilst telling the tale of this proud nation.
